After Five Collective emerged from my deep-seated passion to make a tangible difference in Haiti—a country to which I am profoundly connected as a proud Haitian Canadian. I envision a Haiti where everyone’s basic needs are not just met, but where each solution contributes to a sustainable future, respecting and enhancing the autonomy of its citizens. At seven, I left Haiti for Ottawa, Canada. The beauty of Haiti struck me as I peeked through the airplane window, seeing tree-covered mountains against the blue sea. Each return to Haiti revealed a heartbreaking transformation—the once dense mountains thinning into piles of sand, mirroring the degradation of its institutions. By my last visit in 2018, witnessing this decline, my initial awe had turned into perplexity and then to dismay.
